Survey Crew Volunteers at Idaho Indoor BMX

The Land Group has been involved in supporting the Idaho BMX community in various ways for the previous 5 years. However, for the 2nd year in a row, team members from The Land Group survey team volunteered their time to actually create the new Indoor BMX track.

Ben McGarvey, a TLG Land Surveyor, lead the charge in these improvements. The indoor BMX track gets a lot of use throughout the year, especially during the winter, and often needs rebuilding. Starting with an empty arena, volunteers measured out the building and put the data into AutoCAD with a proposed track from the USA BMX Racing Organization. From there they survey the layout in the arena marking it with paint. After it is painted, minor adjustments are made to the obstacles to obtain the maximum capacity of the building.

The entire track survey, layout, and build usually takes volunteers 3 full days. The group of volunteers is an invested and dedicated community of individuals who are grateful to have a place their kids can ride bikes in the winter. Ben’s own son Colby rides the track and has been participating in the races for several years now.

“This season is a little different than last years as last year we built the track, raced on it for 2 weeks then tore it down for 2 weeks and rebuilt it for the final 2 weeks of racing. This year the track will not be torn down and rebuilt due to the amount of work and man hours it took. We will have 3 full weeks to race and practice on it!” - Ben McGarvey

Races are typically Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with public practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you would like to learn more, check out the Idaho BMX website: https://www.idahobmx.com/idaho-indoor-bmx

“We are out there a lot. It's really cool because our whole family really enjoys the sport and the many friendships we have made with other BMX families around the Valley and the Northwest.”

A big thanks to Ben for helping give back to the community with his professional surveying expertise!
