Meridian Fire Station #6 Celebrates Grand Opening

Meridian celebrated the grand opening of their new Fire Station #6 on March 12, 2020. The Land Group provided exterior site work and civil engineering as well as landscape architecture and irrigation design.

Located at 1435 W. Overland Road, Fire Station No. 6 will be staffed with one fire engine and a battalion chief, which will improve emergency response coverage for south Meridian as it is now the second one in the area. The 10,229-square-foot fire station cost $5.4 million to achieve the design, site work, construction, and landscape.

TLG team members included Eric Cronin (civil), Bob Schafer (landscape), and James Leo (landscape). Architecture was done by Pivot North and construction by ESI. Congratulations to everyone involved and to the city of Meridian on a project well done!

Survey Crew Volunteers at Idaho Indoor BMX

The Land Group has been involved in supporting the Idaho BMX community in various ways for the previous 5 years. However, for the 2nd year in a row, team members from The Land Group survey team volunteered their time to actually create the new Indoor BMX track.

Ben McGarvey, a TLG Land Surveyor, lead the charge in these improvements. The indoor BMX track gets a lot of use throughout the year, especially during the winter, and often needs rebuilding. Starting with an empty arena, volunteers measured out the building and put the data into AutoCAD with a proposed track from the USA BMX Racing Organization. From there they survey the layout in the arena marking it with paint. After it is painted, minor adjustments are made to the obstacles to obtain the maximum capacity of the building.

The entire track survey, layout, and build usually takes volunteers 3 full days. The group of volunteers is an invested and dedicated community of individuals who are grateful to have a place their kids can ride bikes in the winter. Ben’s own son Colby rides the track and has been participating in the races for several years now.

“This season is a little different than last years as last year we built the track, raced on it for 2 weeks then tore it down for 2 weeks and rebuilt it for the final 2 weeks of racing. This year the track will not be torn down and rebuilt due to the amount of work and man hours it took. We will have 3 full weeks to race and practice on it!” - Ben McGarvey

Races are typically Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with public practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you would like to learn more, check out the Idaho BMX website: https://www.idahobmx.com/idaho-indoor-bmx

“We are out there a lot. It's really cool because our whole family really enjoys the sport and the many friendships we have made with other BMX families around the Valley and the Northwest.”

A big thanks to Ben for helping give back to the community with his professional surveying expertise!

Last fall, The Land Group received Third Place in the Renovation Category of Idaho Business Reviews Top Project Awards!

The Boys & Girls Club in Garden City required a complete addition to the existing facility. The Land Group assisted with related site work including demolition, grading, utilities, relocation of accessible parking, and landscape/irrigation replacement and repair. Our team of surveyors, civil engineers, and landscape architects collaborated with the architect, club, local community, and new charter school to achieve the 6,670 square foot addition that tied into the existing gym and kitchen.

MLK Volunteer Day at the Idaho Food Bank

Team members from The Land Group spent a few hours on Martin Luther King Day volunteering at the Idaho Food Bank. For several years in a row now, the team has helped fill backpacks for kids in need of meals. Each backpack included enough food to provide six meals for kids and was packed full of nutrition and food they would enjoy, helping relieve parents and kids a like who struggle to find their next meal. A great cause and a great way to give back to the community, the team had fun working together to fill as many backpacks as they could!

The effective and efficient assembly line of volunteers packed enough backpacks to feed a total of 2,240 kids! Thank you to everyone for their time and support in this great community cause.

Micron Center for Materials Research Building

The Land Group had another exciting partnership with Hummel Architects to provide civil engineering services for the Micron Center for Materials Research building on the Boise State University campus. The new building is expected to reach completion in 2020 and will give students an amazing space for research and learning.

Boise Fire Station #9 Grand Opening

The Land Group is honored to take part in the Grand Opening of the Boise Fire Station #9 and observe that exciting moment of the ribbon cutting (otherwise known as “the hose pulling” for this group). Partnering with Hummel Architects, Cator Ruma, ESI, and City of Boise to create an awesome station for our firefighters has been a pleasure.
